According to the plea submitted by Priya Kapur, Mandhira Kapur was never formally impleaded in the case. Despite this, her name and that of her legal representatives appeared in the records. Priya argued that this was a deliberate attempt to create confusion and gain an unfair advantage in the ongoing Delhi High Court proceedings.

The widow’s application also pointed out that Mandhira’s supposed legal counsel never actually appeared in court, even when the Bench specifically asked for all lawyers to be present. This strengthened her claim that there was no legitimate representation from Mandhira’s side.

Justice Jyoti Singh, presiding over the matter, took note of these discrepancies. She observed that an earlier order dated 10 September had incorrectly listed the counsels’ appearance on behalf of Mandhira Kapur. After reviewing the records, the Delhi High Court rectified the mistake and confirmed that Mandhira is not a party to the ongoing legal dispute.

Disclosure of Assets Ordered by the Court

Alongside this clarification, the Delhi High Court also directed the disclosure of Sunjay Kapur’s assets. All parties have been instructed to file their responses within a stipulated period of two weeks, with the next hearing scheduled for 9 October.

This order comes in the backdrop of rising tensions among members of the Kapur family, who remain divided over the distribution of the late chairman’s estate. The matter has been particularly sensitive given Sunjay Kapur’s high-profile personal life and his ties to both the business and entertainment worlds.

Karisma Kapoor’s Children Challenge the Will

The dispute escalated when Samaira and Kiaan Kapoor, Sunjay’s children from his marriage to actress Karisma Kapoor, approached the Delhi High Court. The two siblings challenged a will that allegedly leaves the entirety of Sunjay Kapur’s estate to his third wife, Priya Kapur.

In their petition, the children claimed that they were repeatedly denied a copy of the will despite multiple requests. They demanded a one-fifth share each of their father’s personal assets, arguing that they were rightful heirs under succession laws. The will, however, is said to grant all of Sunjay’s personal estate solely to Priya Kapur.

The Delhi High Court will now have to carefully examine whether the will is legally valid and if the concerns raised by Sunjay’s children have merit.

Questions Surrounding the Will

The will reportedly came to light during a meeting held on 30 July at the Taj Mansingh Hotel in Delhi. Attendees included Priya Kapur, her legal advisors, businesswoman Shradha Suri Marwah, and senior executives of Aureus Investment Pvt. Ltd., the promoter entity of Sona Comstar.

It remains uncertain whether the document has been formally registered, which adds another layer of complexity to the case. If the will is found to be unregistered or improperly executed, its legal standing may be challenged in the Delhi High Court.

Defendants Named in the Petition

The petition not only names Priya Kapur as a primary beneficiary of the will but also lists several others as defendants. These include:

  • Azarius Kapur, Priya and Sunjay’s son.
  • Rani Kapur, Sunjay’s mother.
  • Shradha Suri Marwah, managing director of Subros and executor of the will.
  • Dinesh Agarwal and Nitin Sharma, directors of Aureus Investment Pvt. Ltd., are accused of colluding with Priya to transfer assets in her favour.

The children’s plea alleges that these individuals may have played a role in facilitating the transfer of Sunjay’s personal assets without due transparency. The Delhi High Court will now investigate these claims to determine if any misconduct was involved.

A Family Feud in the Public Eye

The Kapur family’s internal conflicts have been thrust into the spotlight ever since Sunjay Kapur’s sudden death on 12 June 2025. Given the family’s connections to the film industry and the business community, every development in the case has been closely watched by the public and media.

The involvement of Karisma Kapoor’s children has further heightened interest, as the dispute combines elements of inheritance law, celebrity, and corporate assets. The Delhi High Court proceedings are therefore being followed not just for their legal implications, but also for their societal and familial consequences.

Broader Implications of the Case

The outcome of this case could have far-reaching consequences, both for the distribution of Sunjay Kapur’s estate and for future inheritance disputes in India. By clarifying that Mandhira Kapur is not a party to the case, the Delhi High Court has set a precedent on the importance of accurate representation in sensitive inheritance matters.

Moreover, the court’s directive to disclose assets ensures transparency, which is vital in high-profile cases involving multiple stakeholders. As the next hearing approaches, the spotlight will remain firmly on how the court interprets the will and whether all legal heirs are given their rightful share.
